To set a template as the default for a particular page type, display the information panel by hovering over its information icon in the list and clicking the Set as Default link. To change which template is designated as default for any given page type, select its list entry and click the Page action menu (in the upper right of the row) to open up the Template Details page, where you can edit the name and thumbnail image and set Content Group access when creating new pages.
Add Layouts to Your Template, and They Will Automatically Apply on Pages Based on This Template For instance, creating a two-column blog template could allow you to design an effective 2-column layout, which would then apply automatically to all future blog posts in that blog.
